Who We Are
What’s In A Name?
“Quality of life” is phrase that’s heard often today. In the days of the New Testament there were different words for “life” and they described the quality of life with a single word. “Bios” , from which we get our word “biology” is just organic life, lived by the common thief and by the ruler of the land. Jesus used the word “Zoe” to describe the new life that He was bringing to His lost sheep. He said, “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness” (John 10:10 NLT) which is described as Zoe. It is a gift from above and reveals the goodness of the Father in Heaven.
Jesus’ own earthly life is held out to us as the Perfect Life, making Him the Perfect Sacrifice. The Apostle John says of Jesus, “Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone” (John 1:4 NLT). Again, this is Zoe and it reveals perfectly the Father and the Spirit through the life in the Son.
And it is the good news that Jesus shares this life with His followers and calls all others to become His followers so that they too can share in it. The Apostle Paul writes to the Colossian believers, “For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory” (Col 3:3-4 NLT). This “real life” is Zoe.
Zoe Church is a community of believers committed to finding the grace and truth of Jesus Christ that results in real life, an abundant life. A life filled with healing and community. Life that grows out but is connected to the source of life: Jesus Himself. Life that we are given now and that will continue into eternity as Jesus has declared, ““I am the resurrection and the life (Zoe). Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. 26 They are given eternal life (Zoe) for believing in me and will never perish” (John 11:25-26 NLT).
Zoe exists to call all people, particularly those of South Orange County, CA, to our Savior Jesus. A living presence in a lost world. And to follow Him through careful dedication to His Word, not getting overly distracted with human visions or the ways of man. And to find and live that abundant life that He promised to His faithful followers, as evidence that He’s truly found us.
